Please suggest improvements for mapmyphoto

As the map will get cluttered with markers, we are trying to implement a marker management system whereby markers are displayed in groups until you zoom in.

Maybe also think about having categorised map markers, based on the type of photography at location. Like the categories you are asking us under our profile. So I could see all urban type locations. Maybe also a method for having favorite locations in my profile, or attached to the map marker. Also a rating system for locations, star based system you get on many sites (spotted this now) not sure if this is dsiplayed on the map marker context box though, that would be good.

The marker categories is something that we were considering so it's good to know our users would find it useful, although I don't expect it to be implemented until nearer the official launch. Favourites is another brilliant recommendation. As for the rating system, we are having trouble displaying it on the map marker context boxes, but hope to fix it soon. Also in the future users will be able to browse by the highest rated location.

Moved these comments (which I agree with) from the Concepts area of the forum.     Agree with using geotag information from photo if available. Agree with multiple photo upload for location.

Geo-tagging one for the future (we want to get the basic functionality sorted first) we have many exciting ideas for it. As of now you can upload another sub photograph, see the example. Again another feature for the future, we will probably create the option to add photographs into a scrolling banner.

Just added a location. It takes time (to do it well) this may put some people off. Maybe the option of a quick add - I understand this would maybe go against the quality of information you are looking for but may get more locations added. This will be a balance.

Did want to feedback that the useful links and contact numbers field does not create hyperlinks from URLs added. That would be quite basic feature people would expect rather than copy paste into browser address bar.

I appreciate it does take time to do it well and we are worried it could put people off. We are reluctant to go for a cut down option as we want to retain the distinction between a photo-sharing websites and our website, a photo-location sharing website. Without the extra info we feel we would loose that distinction. However you're right about achieving a balance, maybe we should include smaller sections with better prompt questions?

The hyperlink issue is annoying, our coding platform believe it or not doesn't allow us to currently create auto hyperlink fields, again trying to find a solution.

FIXED

Hi, me again. When I view a location by clicking on a map marker I get the context box appear but the text is hard to see, light green colour, and the darker green Location heading below the image is slightly off the context window. Happy to post screen shot if you need. The hyperlink title for the location is only visible when I move my mouse pointer over the link. I use Chrome browser.

Feel free to move this thread into technical area, realised after I posted.

I would just like to say, once again thank you for the brilliant feedback. We are aware of this formatting issue and trying to solve the problem. However we weren't aware of the text being slightly of the context window, a screenshot would be much appreciated, please send it to us at: [email protected].

As an example, if I find location and zoom into Chesterton Windmill I can see that there are 2 map markers for the same location. It would be good to add a photo to the same location. Otherwise, with popular locations, there will be too many markers on the map and people will duplicate information in their submission. For example if I wanted to post Chestertom Windmill as a location I could just upload my photo onto an existing larker and maybe add to the info about that location.

We can change it so people can edit other people's content. However we are worried that someone might change it and make it worse, or tactically post just their images, or even delete the content. However we are looking into users being able to create revisions, which would solve the problem.

You can now edit all photo-locations. It creates a new revision, however we can roll back to the old version.

Add a 'Logged in as username' at the top of the page.

Good suggestion, now implemented.

This may be listed somewhere so apologies if it is. A recently added on the front site. The home page doesn't really give me much information once I have read it. I would like to customise it or at least see latest information, maybe new users, new locations, this weeks most commented, this weeks most viewed, current top user, latest site additions etc.

And, again this may be here, but a list of site development considerations, ideas and status. A sort of roadmap for users to see what's coming.

We want to get the balance between providing useful links, and filling the homepage with to much text as it would make it too long. However, we have now added some more links, see the homepage. New users can now be view in the sidebar of your profile. I'll make a list of site developments soon, and probably a new forum so we can receive feedback.
