West Bay, Bridport, Dorset

lyndakmorris's picture

Situated at the western end of Chesil Beach / Chesil Bank, the area forms part of the Dorset Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site within Lyme Bay.

This photo was taken in evening, the sun setting throws beautiful orange light onto the already orange sandstone cliff. If you get there as the sun is setting, it's too late as it soon disappears over the coast - need to be there an hour before. Other shots to be had around the harbour. It's the location of the TV drama Broadchurch, so is said to have a lot of sightseers there for the 'Broadchurch' locations, but wasn't busy when we were there. I'm not sure about tides as don't know whether it was high or low when we were there. Tripod useful for any shot in late evening and long exposures during the day.

Evening would appear to be best time to take shots of cliff but other times would be ok for harbour.

Lovely eating places abound, with fresh sea food on offer. We went to the Anchor in Burton Bradstock (need to book) and stayed at the Chesil Beech B&B there which has marvelous location on the cliff just 10 minutes from the sea.
