Welcombe Hills Monument, Warwickshire

billabongmac's picture

The Welcombe Hill's is a beautiful nature reserve (148 acres) in Stratford upon Avon and at its peak sits a Obelisk which can be seen from the surrounding areas adjacent to the Welcombe Hills.

The Obelisk is the focal point of this location and makes for a great portrait shot where you can try and capture the scale of the monument close up, it would also make a nice landscape shot by incorporating some of the surrounding hills. There are lots of potential viewpoints so wander around many of the surrounding footpaths and fields. A dramatic sky will of course make for a better shot, hence sunrise is recommended! Finally the nearby Welcombe hotel (it's immediately obvious from the Obelisk) also makes an interesting shot.

Note that this is a popular recreational location so can it be rather busy at times with runners, walkers etc.

I revisited the Welcombe Hill's Monument the other week and captured this shot, mid-afternoon with blue-skies and a few clouds in the sky using my iPhone. Fairly pleased with the result!
