Three cliffs bay, Gower, South Wales

Alan Gregg's picture

Images can be taken at any time of year but sunset shots are best taken during the winter months. Although images can be taken at various stages of tide, it's most accessible at low tide (check local tides). Please be aware of tides on this beach as there are dangerous currents and incoming tides can leave you in a dangerous situation. Can be a very popular beach with holiday makers during the summer months.

I visited this location last week and would thoroughly recommend it to all landscape photographers. The place was deserted apart from a few dog walkers. I bet it's very busy in the summer months, so I would recommend visiting out of season. The lighting was amazing and bathed the beach in glorious sunlight (about 10am). Make sure you observe the tide times because the 'Three Cliffs Headland' partitions the bay at high tide and it comes in quickly! I parked at Penmaen which was a free but small car park, therefore probably best to arrive early to get a space. The walk to the beach took about 25mins and is sheepish at times. I don't know of any closer parking. The ruins of Pennard Castle stands on the cliff side near Three Cliffs Bay and is also worth visiting for a shot.
