Lyveden New Bield, Oundle, Northamptonshire

gala's picture

Almost deserted during the week, Lyveden New Bield is a fascinating skeleton of a house that was never completed. Originally designed as a banqueting house in the 16th Century, it is surrounded by wildflower meadows, the remains of a sculptural gardens of mounds, moat and maze, and a recently replanted orchard. For photography, a macro lens is definitely recommended as there is plenty of space to get down and close to the flowers. This spring, predominantly cowslips are blooming. I would also recommend it as a place for infra-red photography, particularly on a day with a sky as wild as I had.
