Clayton Windmills, Jack and Jill, East Sussex, UK

Matt's picture

The Clayton Windmills, known locally as Jack and Jill, stand on the South Downs above the village of Clayton. Jack is the taller of the two lovely windmills and it is a private house. Jill Mill is open to the public on most Sundays and bank holidays during the summer. Jill Mill has now been restored to full working order by the Jack and Jill Windmills Society. There's a free car park in front of the two mills, Jill is the nearest to the car park. There is a terrific viewpoint at this location which boast spectacular views of the Sussex Weald. This is a fantastic location for both landscape photography and astrophotography; the windmills provide a great foreground subject for star trails. Finally lots of great walks in the area.
