Birchen bank wood, Peak District National Park

Andy Milner's picture

This is a place I've been to a few times. Access is off the A628 Sheffield - Manchester road.  If you are going to it from the Sheffield end it is the next left turn (to the car park) after going over the bridge on the corner (if you get to the lorry park you've gone past it!). If coming in from the Manchester end then it's the first right after the lorry park (about 800 yards) it is signposted "Works Access". The car park is at the bottom of the road.

Once parked it is just a matter of following the stream (below the car park) into the woods. Terrain-wise it is ok until you start to get further into the woods and there is a bit of clambering over rocks to get to a waterfall... If you can, it is worth going over this waterfall (there is a way up past it to the left) where you will be rewarded by more waterfalls...
