Avebury stone circle

twosugars's picture

Avebury village is set within a large prehistoric stone circle, older than Stonehenge. Situated well on the tourist trail, it gets busy in summer and is best visited early morning or late afternoon in summer. Use wellies/ walking boots after rain as most of the circle is grassed. The red lion pub in the village center does food, as does the National trust Tea room next to the Great Barn museum. The Henge shop sells local history books as well as a large range of "New age " gifts.  Avebury Manor has a series of walled gardens, a fee is payable for access to the Manor garden and house - NT members go free
