Ashness Bridge, Lake District

billabongmac's picture

Probably one of the most photographed locations in the UK and an iconic scene from the Lake District, Ashness bridge is beautiful spot for landscape photography. You can capture some lovely wide angle shots of the bridge and surrounding mountainous area which surrounds Derwent water, or get up close for some long exposures of the water rushing over the rocks using filters. Either way this is a great location to shoot and a must for any landscape photographer.

I visited this location early in 2012 during a surprisingly dry February. I tried taking shots from both sides of the bridge and I think going downstream produces the better shot. Be prepared to wait to capture your shot as it seems that anyone walking over the bridge likes to stop and take in the views for a minute or two!

Lovely take on this location. I've included an image to show the view from upstream. You are so very right about being prepared! I had to wait numerous times for people and traffic to move on, maybe best to visit early morning while the tourists are still in bed.

It is famous for being a fine viewpoint across Borrowdale towards Skiddaw.
