Ribblehead Viaduct is nestled in between the 3 great peaks in the Yorkshire Dales, Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen Y Ghent. It can be visited any time of year, but can get very busy in the summer months.

Ribblehead is most impressive under cloudy moody skies.

excellent sunrise location between March and September.

Steep path down to the bay on your right. Best to go towards southern end of bay near cliff. If tide has fallen enough, you can get out to the headland, where you'll find an old wreck and you can shoot the Nab rock tower from this location.

Sandsend, 2 miles north of Whitby. A good starting point for the cliff path northwards. The beach is north-east facing and ideal for winter sunrise. Also good for atmospheric long exposure shots during grey weather, and drama in higher winds.

A Twelve foot high stone cross sits on top of Rylstone Fell. The stone cross replaced a previous wooden cross in 1995.

Once you get to the top near the Cross, there are large boulders, pools and fantastic views to the West and North - excellent for sunsets.

I favour winter months to avoid the crowds. That way I can photograph without herds of sightseers in my viewfinder. The pier is open 24/7 and is perfect for wide angle lenses.

This location best for dawns around May-June as sun will rise up the Dale before you. Alternatively, try sunsets Spring/Autumn but not Summer as light will be directly in your lens.

Whitby is a wonderfully old-fashioned seaside port on the North Yorkshire coast. The pier offers many photographic opportunities, usually best captured at dawn. This location suits long exposures and a minimalist style, so remember your ND filters.

Whitby is a wonderfully old-fashioned seaside port on the North Yorkshire coast. Famed for it's association with Bram Soker's Dracula, it offers many wonderful photographic opportunities.

York Minster is a superb location to capture architectural masterpieces from its stone to stain glass windows. I would recommend photographing sections of the Minster from the stain glass windows to the detailed of sections of its stonework.
