Avebury village is set within a large prehistoric stone circle, older than Stonehenge. Situated well on the tourist trail, it gets busy in summer and is best visited early morning or late afternoon in summer.

Amazing place to visit, has a very eerie atmosphere to the place.

Owned by English Heritage (admission charge) but NT members can get in free. 

Can get very busy at times.

Castlerigg Stone Circle is one of the most visually impressive prehistoric monuments in Britain. The stone circle is on the top of a low hill with views across to Skiddaw, Blencathra and Lonscale Fell.
