The photo taken here was after days of heavy rain when the lake was filling up from the adjacent tidal pond with running water under the footbridge. In this location on a clear day the sun will rise up to the side of the castle making a possible great shot.

Penarth Pier is an old Victorian pier, now in need of repair, but it's still open and is a great spot for photography. There are lots of shots to be had both on and off the pier (from the road or even from below on Penarth beach).

Images can be taken at any time of year but sunset shots are best taken during the winter months. Although images can be taken at various stages of tide, it's most accessible at low tide (check local tides).
