This beautiful space lies between the Norman castle built in 1068 and Lincoln Cathedral.  Especially lovely as a night time location and in the Xmas period.  Virtually deserted after 6pm and pedestrians can be eliminated from images with long exposures and a tripod.

Entry to the cathedral is FREE although donations are welcomed. There is a charge for a photography permit which is currently £3 and that gives you permission to use a tripod and take any images you wish. You also receive a 10% off voucher for the cafe, plus a colour broc

They ask for a fee (I think £3.50) to take photographs but allow tripods. There are various tombs and interesting aspects to photograph. You can also pay extra to see the mappa mundi exhibition.

York Minster is a superb location to capture architectural masterpieces from its stone to stain glass windows. I would recommend photographing sections of the Minster from the stain glass windows to the detailed of sections of its stonework.

Ely Cathedral can be photographed from almost every angle, but this is the classic view, from Palace Green, with the Crimean War cannon on display.

Especially spectacular at night, although the main gates normally close at 6.30pm.

Wharton Park has a fantastic view point over the cathedral, castle and viaduct. This location is perfect for both day and particularly nighttime shots of the Durham cityscape. Trains regularly pass over the viaduct, so long exposure trails are possible.
