Avebury village is set within a large prehistoric stone circle, older than Stonehenge. Situated well on the tourist trail, it gets busy in summer and is best visited early morning or late afternoon in summer.

The ruins of the Magpie lead mines are a good visit for pretty much any weather conditions, I think the ruins lend themselves to bright sunny days, gloomy skies and sunrise/sunset.

Dean wood has a large amount of bluebells. Easy parking at the roadside and an easy walking into the woods. Fairly flat and even, so suitable for most people. Also views from the edge of the wood across fields towards Didcot Power Station.

Dawlish Warren is a very popular place with families in the summer months. There is lots of entertainment there but walking east takes you away from the crowds to quieter places.

A beautiful 5 miles walk through the glens of two rivers, which I was advised would take 2-2 1/2 miles, but was getting on for over 3 hours by the time I had finished faffing and photographing.

Redgrave & Lopham Fen National Nature Reserve is the largest remaining river valley fen in England and the source of the River Waveney. The landscape is mainly comprised of reedbeds and woodland, and for the wildlife photographer this offers some great opportunities.
